Minivan rap

by Katrina on August 20, 2010

I drive a minivan. There. I’ve said it.

Maybe you think that’s not cool. I’ll try not to hold that against you. I happen to think that SUVs, which are less fuel-efficient than my minivan, aren’t cool. I hope we can still be friends.

Toyota has come out with this video (“Swagger Wagon”), proving that we minivan parents are, in fact, demonstrably cool.

See for yourself. (Yes, it’s an ad. No I’m not getting paid to show it. It’s just really funny.)

I LOVE our mini van (Kia Sedona). It makes life so much easier with all of that space. That video is hysterical, to.

Even when I didn’t have kids I drove station wagons – I could never figure out why anyone would drive anything as impractical as a coupe. Now with three little ones in tow, I’m in LOVE with my minivan- a ’99 Olds Silhouette with just shy of 200,000 miles and still going strong!

The video is a hoot – I especially liked the dancing jello mold – why I don’t know :0)

……just occurred to me…..these parents don’t seem to have jobs……at least not jobs that interfere with school plays, bake sales, tea parties, and nursing boo boos.

I got the feeling the dad works, mom stays home. Otherwise, how would she have time to decorate those cute little cup cakes, and arrange all those play dates?

The song is stuck in my head now…

When I had my second child, with my first still needing a carseat and (now a double) stroller, I finally broke down and looked at minivans.

I was very resistant because I thought, “But I’m too cool for a minivan!”

I realized that, sadly, I am no longer too cool for a minivan.

Also, once I’d tried the remote start, remote auto-sliding doors (with SO much room even in front of the kids), remote auto rear door open/close, 60/40 stow-and-go third row, and yes, the DVD player, I was hooked.

I often tell resistant (parent) friends: “Once you’ve lived with remote sliding doors, you’ll never go back.”

Wow that is FUNNY. Will admit as a parent of one I swore I’d never get an SUV or minivan but now with two car seats in the back of our audi A4 I am seeing the light. Two ca rseats and two parents do not leave very much room for golf clubs and beach chairs or even groceries.
